Life isn’t about beginnings, or endings. It’s about journeys. The magic that happens between the before and the after. And right now we’re on a journey like we’ve never seen.

#JourneyMakers is a creative campaign to celebrate the people who are changing the way we get from A to B safely, efficiently, and sustainably.  

London’s Smart Mobility Living Lab is an integral part of the story.

To set the scene, when the testbed was just a concept, we created this enchanting film about the possibilities of future mobility.

Today, the testbed is a reality. But it also exists as a complete digital twin that our customers use for testing safely in a virtual, synthetic environment before going onto the road for real. In the video below you can see the actual roads of London we have instrumented for monitoring and data capture, and the simulated version of it top right.

We commissioned a series of blogs to inspire you with tales of the extraordinary people who have already transformed mobility, and of those who are striving to make future options a reality sooner, by collaborating.

There are the Present Innovators - the members of the SMLL build consortium working on smart city innovations, hybrid and electric vehicles, automation, security of connected infrastructure, and so much more.

And there are the Past Innovators, the heroes and heroines who gave us refrigerated trucks, cats eyes, windscreen wipers, airbags, cable cars, adventurous test drives and other things that we tend to take for granted. Their stories are a vivid reminder of the passion and determination it takes to something for the firs time. These people have changed the way we move people and goods around. They are an inspiration for the generation today in the midst of a transport revolution.
