DRIVEN
The DRIVEN project investigated the challenges of implementing Level 4 fully autonomous vehicles related to insurance, risk, safety and connectivity with traffic control. The project deployed a fleet of six cars driving routes around London and Oxford, fitted with a software stack to enable them to operate independently (without infrastructure or communication support). The project provided proof of concept and reassurance of the safety and viability of the technology.
TRL’s role was to provide assurance of the safety case for the on-road trials, building out knowledge that has contributed to the development of safety regulations for all CAV trials in the UK. To help other cities select routes for trials we built a situational risk analysis model. This tool also informs insurers of the risks of providing cover for automated vehicle trials, providing the evidence required to adapt their business models and insurance pricing models.
