R&D SUPPORT.png

Whatever stage you’re at in your product or service development, SMLL can support your journey. We provide pre-trial advice on what to test, how to test, which KPIs to monitor and how to collect the right data.

SMLL can then help your trial run smoothly in practice, from recruiting public participants to network and infrastructure integration.  On a practical level the SMLL automated vehicle platform and onboard compute systems are available for ADAS and ADS sub-system component testing, or whole system commissioning tests can be conducted with all onboard vehicle sensors and data output.

Trial data can either be provided in a raw, unprocessed state for customer analysis or SMLL can conduct post trial, impartial, analysis of captured data.

Data mining

SMLL owns and curates a wealth of data. Our sources are the vehicles, the roadside and other intelligent transportation systems. Plus we have access to large external data sets. Our platform systems for the analysis and visualisation of this data to allow us to do advanced analytics, data transformation and onward reporting. Insights from data help us model and understand the impact that new services and technologies have on congestion, air quality, society and the mobility ecosystem.

Connectivity

SMLL can support DSRC and cellular connectivity trials (4G and 5G)throughout the 24km instrumented routes which offer a range of challenging radio frequency environments to test the performance of communications equipment in the real world. SMLL data from video streams, road side telemetry and on-board vehicle systems produces high resolution and high confidence data. We can also link to data sets for C-ITS applications, such as real time signal phase and timing (SPAT) and map data (MAP).

Performance verification and validation

Vehicle performance analytics are key to successfully developing new business models, for OEMs, insurers, and infrastructure providers. SMLL supports R&D teams to build their knowledge base of vehicle performance fast, and to refine their analytics and reporting techniques.

Future statutory approvals will need reliable benchmarking against standards. We can guide test teams to capture the metrics most likely to be needed to meet evolving standards.
